I am so honored and grateful to have the amazing Henry Emmons, MD on the show, sharing his insights on natural mental health.  I wanted to bring Henry on the show because he is a leader when it comes to truly helping people with anxiety and depression. I get questions all the time around medication use for mental health and while it’s important that I not answer those kinds of questions because I’m not a mental health professional, I can bring on experts who have the knowledge to help and support you.

About Henry Emmons, MD:

Henry Emmons, MD is a psychiatrist who integrates mind‑body and natural therapies, mindfulness and neuroscience into his clinical work. He is a co‑founder of NaturalMentalHealth.com, offering trusted information and holistic products to help individuals of all ages build their resilience and rediscover joy. Henry is the author of The Chemistry of Joy, The Chemistry of Calm, and Staying Sharp, and is in demand as a workshop leader for both healthcare professionals and the general public.

Inside this episode, Henry Emmons shares:

  • Why listening to his own voice makes him feel most alive
  • How his desire to see and honor the whole person brought him to this type of work
  • Thoughts on the spectrum of anxiety
  • His beliefs on medication for anxiety
  • The difference between stress and anxiety
  • The role of self-awareness in stress
  • The negativity bias
  • How genetics and early childhood experiences impact our response to stress
  • The signs of anxiety in children and why it may develop

I’m so excited to share this message today. I’m excited for a few reasons: 1) because it is so close to my heart and 2) because you all ask me about this all the time. This message is in response to the question, “Can I remain in a romantic relationship when my partner is not willing to grow?”  I want to share my truth and my advice.

Inside this episode, I share:

  • The role of inconvenient truths in evaluating our relationships
  • The importance of having a vision for the type of relationship that you want to be in
  • The reality that some relationships have an expiration date
  • The need for operating in alignment with our desired outcome

I absolutely love this conversation with Gary. He is passionate, deep and wise in all things grief. Grief is such an interesting conversation and this is the first conversation around grief we’ve ever had on the show. Whether it’s grief from breakup or grief from loss, he offers very tangible solutions. I hope you enjoy this conversation with the incredible Gary Roe.

Inside this episode, Gary Roe shares:

  • How being connected to people in quality, loving relationships makes him feel most alive
  • That we have to have a sense of safety in order to heal from what’s happened to us and to grow past it
  • Things that can help people to feel safe
  • That shielding ourselves from emotional pain keeps us from love, life, and safety

  • Perspectives on the human habit of suppressing grief
  • Reflections on the pattern of regret in grief
  • How working in hospice leads him to live from his heart
  • That living with the most purpose requires figuring out who we are

In this solo jam we are going to be talking about the addiction to personal development.  Some of you out there want to consume all the things: the podcasts, the books, the mentors and coaching.  This was me! I was so addicted to the pursuit of personal development that I was actually missing the point.  In this episode I’m going to go into how we identify that and how we start to untangle it so that we can do the work that matters.

Inside this episode, I share:

  • The power of intention and being committed to it
  • How constant consumption leads to scattered focus
  • That consumption without integration creates frustration
  • Getting to know yourself is a more productive path than consumption
  • Important work can be accomplished by being, not doing
  • The role of breathwork in embracing the concept of presence
  • We can improve our lives by making every decision from our most authentic selves
  • How to set yourself up for daily “wins”, which will increase happiness
  • The benefits of recognizing progress in your journey
